Turns out it was in a mk2, not a mk1, so rear seat and door cards will require some persuasion to install, but the fronts are in and fresh as f*ck!
Hopefully going to put the rest together soon. New carpet will be ordered soon too, then this summer I'll deal with the headliner etc. Need to put the dash in too...so many things that need attention. Hah.

Those seats are legit! Plaid for the win!

That tartan cloth makes me smile. Oh, to have a car again. Instead of taxis, Uber, Lyfft, Hertz ... oy.

I'm in love with tartan. I really want old seats exactly like yours, just with blue tartan. Do you have any idea what other options are available? I'm assuming you struck gold with this find, but where might I find something similar?

I'm sure my input had no effect on your purchasing decision but I'm glad for once when I say buy it on an "oppo should I buy this?" post someone does.

Plaid for the win!
Yes, plaid! NOT tartan! Tartan has to be 2-way symmetrical, plaid does not.

Yep! Reminds me of my deceased 2013 GTI with plaid seats.

I did strike gold, haha. They are recaros, but were professionally recovered. The owner bought the cloth from mk1 autohaus, not sure where he got the leather from.
I'd snap up any decent seat of recaros and put them together, or pay a shop if you aren't comfortable with that sort of work. There almost always seems to be some decent sets around, and getting new foam for bolsters/cushions etc seems fairly easy. It gets expensive in a hurry though.

Yes. The previous owner picked up a beat set of recaros and had them reupholstered top to bottom.
Only issue is I was a dummy and didn't realize they were in a mk2, so the rear seat will need some modifications to fit.

Nice well I can't wait to see them in and finished. Those Recaros look comfy.

So if I plan of redoing the seats, I might as well just get a shitty set. Then redo the bolstering and cloth?

Pretty much. Obviously getting a set in good condition means less work to perfect them, but it depends on your budget/tolerance for upholstery work, haha

Also make sure that you can find the bolstering for the seats you're looking at before you buy
